St. Nicholas Parish Holy Name Society
Minutes of the meeting of Dec. 20, 20167

The meeting opened at 7:03 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Jim Lehman, Bruce Skibo and John Teleha.

John moved the approval of the minutes of the Oct. 18 meeting; Bruce seconded. The minutes were approved.

Treasurer: Bruce reported that there is $134 in the account.

Correspondence: There was no correspondence.

Old business: No one attended the bishop’s dinner. Jim wishes that it were held closer to us.

New business: Jim received a request from Mr. Bacher for a roster of our membership.

Spiritual: Father Nick spoke about the mystery of the Incarnation of the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity.

John moved to adjourn; Jim seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m.

Minutes of the meeting of Oct. 18, 2017

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Jim Lehman and Bruce Skibo. The minutes of the Sept. 20 meeting were approved with a motion by Bruce and second by Jim..

Treasurer: Bruce reported that there is $113.00 in the account.

Old business: Someone is still needed to attend the Bishop’s Award dinner.

Correspondence: Bacher still wants a representative for the dinner. Jim said he would pay for himself and another. Dave then pointed out that the deadline to make a reservation had passed.

New business: Father Nick announced that the Christmas Eve vigil Liturgy would be at 9 p.m. and the Christmas Day Liturgy at 10 a.m.

Spiritual: Father Nick spoke about the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah, its arrangement, context and message.

Jim moved adjournment and Bruce seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.

 

Minutes of the meeting of Sept. 20, 2017

The meeting opened at 7:15 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Bruce Skibo and John Teleha. The minutes of the Dec. 21 meeting were approved.

Treasurer: Bruce reported that there is $113.00 in the account.

Old business: Money for the slab wood sold several months ago still hasn’t been paid. It’s now a moot point. Dave said he had not received an updated officer list for the diocesan HNS.

Correspondence: Father Nick reported that he had received a letter from Fr. Haren asking that all HNS members stand up for their Catholic faith and to witness it by living it out in their daily activities.

Dave said he received a letter thanking us for our contributions to the underwear and sock collection.

New business: Dave noted the Bishop’s Award Dinner scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 22 at St. Patrick Parish’s Thorpe Hall and asked if anyone would like to represent us there. No one did but there was a suggestion that the information be put in our parish bulletin. The interested person should contact Dave.

Father Nick encouraged all HNS members to help work the Autumn Leaves dinner on Oct. 7.

Bruce announced that annual dues of $3 were now due and asked that a notice be put in the parish bulletin.

Spiritual: Father Nick spoke about the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, its arrangement, context and message.

John moved adjournment and Bruce seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7:34 p.m.

 

Minutes of the meeting of May 17, 2017

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Bruce Skibo and John Teleha. Bruce moved approval of the minutes of the Dec. 21; John seconded and the minutes of the meeting were approved.

Treasurer: Bruce reported that there is $103.00 in the account.

Old business: Money for the slab wood sold several months ago still hasn’t been paid.

New business: Dave referred to the "Holy Namer" May issue that there was supposed to be an officer update list sent out to each local Society but he hadn’t gotten it. He will follow up. The same for the flyer about the men’s underwear and sock drive. We will participate in that and Bruce will take the items wherever they need to go.

Father Nick noted that there will be a memorial Divine Liturgy for Ann Lehman on Friday, May 26, at 10 a.m. and encouraged Holy Members to be present in support of Glen, Jim and the family. Father also reported that Father Haren had asked about why membership in Lorain County HNS was declining and Father Nick had discussed it with him by telephone.

Spiritual: Father Nick spoke about the four traditions that make up the Book of Genesis.

Minutes of the meeting of Sept. 21, 2016

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Jim Lehman, John Teleha and Mike Naymik. John moved acceptance of the minutes of the June 22 meeting; Mike seconded; the minutes were approved.

Correspondence: The new "Namer" is out.

Treasurer: Father Nick reported that there is $83 in the account.

Old business: Money for the slab wood sold several months ago still hasn’t been paid. Jim said he was upset about this but would be getting the $100 next week.

New business: Jim reported that the HNS in Lorain County is falling apart. The Deanery does nothing. We do things only for our parish. The Deanery is talking about disbanding. Jim will goto the bishop’s award dinner. We could place an ad in the program booklet. He offeredto pary for those members who want to go. He asked about our hosting the memorial Liturgy. Father Nick said that we would be willing to do that on Feb. 17, 2017 the eve of our first All Souls Saturday.

Dave mentioned the Diocesan HNS request for a focus on Marian devotion this year. Father Nick suggested that our members take part in our Akathist to the Mother of God at 7 p.m. on Oct. 3.

Spiritual: Father Nick spoke about the Bible and some background information about it.

Minutes of the meeting of June 22, 2016

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, John Teleha and Mike Naymik. John moved acceptance of the minutes of the April 20 meeting; Mike seconded; the minutes were approved.

Treasurer: Father Nick reported that there is $83 in the account.

Old business: Father Nick reported that the condition of the roof is fine and we still haven’t figured out why the ceiling is leaking. Money for the slab wood sold several months ago still hasn’t been paid. He said that there has been an inquiry about purchasing the sawdust. Re-painting and striping needs to be done; paint is here; Jim Lehman was to check on the striper.

New business: Father Nick said that we would not need the tent for the picnic since everyone eats inside.

Spiritual: Father Nick spoke about the Ohio Catholic Conference Religious Freedom Advisory Board and its advice to the Ohio bishops concerning hot-button issues.

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF APRIL 20, 2016

the meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, John Teleha, Jim Lehman, Mike Naymik and Bruce Skibo. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Dave and approved.

Treasurer: Bruce reported that there is $81 in the account and that dues need to be collected. He asked for a bulletin announcement. Dave paid his dues.

Old business: Mike asked about the slab wood and Father Nick said he hadn’t heard from Elk River but would follow up. Some has been sold but not yet paid for; Jim said he would follow up on that. Jim also suggested getting a chipper to clean up the tree tops. There was a general discussion of cleaning up the woods. There was also some discussion of the ceiling leaking in the auditorium. Father Nick will be contacting the roofing engineer.

New business: Jim reported that he went to the district Holy Name meeting. They suggested some county-wide events such as a golf outing at Fox Creek to benefit the Wish Foundation. Mike move that we take part; John seconded; the motion passed. There was a general discussion of the mowing of our property.

Spiritual: Father Nick spoke about the corporal work of mercy of welcoming the stranger and stressed the importance of welcoming visitors and helping them with the Liturgy. There was a discussion about the role of the ushers and Father noted that the primary role was that of hospitality. All parishioners also need to be more welcoming.

John moved adjournmet; Mike seconded; the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.

 

Minutes of the meeting of JUNE 17, 2015

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. Present were: Dave Stacko, Jim Lehman, Bruce Skibo, John Teleha and Father Nick.

SECRETARY
John moved approval of the minutes of the April 15 meeting; Jim seconded. The minutes were approved as printed.

TREASURER
Bruce reported that the account has $81.

CORRESPONDENCE
There was no correspondence

OLD BUSINESS
Jim asked about the parking lot sewers and Father Nick explained that the pipes needed extensive work and possibly replacement. Jim said he would look into re-striping the parking space in front of the church.

NEW BUSINESS
Jim proposed a county deanery golf outing as a fund-raiser for our parish. He will research this.

SPIRITUAL
Father Nick explained the notion of the theological virtues and spoke about the virtue of faith.

John moved adjournment; Jim seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.

 

Minutes of the meeting of April 15, 2015

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Bruce Skibo and John Teleha.

SECRETARY
John moved and Bruce seconded that minutes of the November 19 meeting be approved as printed. Motion passed.

TREASURER
Bruce reported that the balance is $81. Bruce will get signature cards.

OLD BUSINESS
Mention was made of the sewers in the parking lot. Father Nick said that John Falbo will be giving us the estimate very soon. He spoke with him the other day.

NEW BUSINESS
Father Nick said that it was time for the annual walk-around of the property to determine what needs repair. Dave said that the front parking area needs re-striping.

SPIRITUAL
Father Nick spoke again about the virtue of temperance.

John motioned for adjournment and Bruce seconded it. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

 

 

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF NOVEMBER 19, 2014

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Fr. Nick, Dave Stacko, Bruce Skibo and John Teleha.

SECRETARY
John moved approval of the October minutes; Bruce seconded. The minutes were approved.

TREASURER
Bruce reported that the account had $69.

OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business

NEW BUSINESS
Under new business, Fr. Nick reported on the condition of the sewers in the parking lot. Bruce mentioned that the Pope might be coming to Cleveland. He also asked for a clarification about the meaning of blasphemy and Fr. Nick explained what it is.

SPIRITUAL
Father Nick gave the spiritual talk about the cardinal virtue of fortitude.

John moved adjournment and Bruce seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.

 

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF OCTOBER 15, 2014

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Jim Lehman, Bruce Skibo and John Teleha.

SECRETARYBruce moved and John seconded that minutes of the September 19 meeting be approved as printed. Motion passed.

TREASURERBruce reported that the balance is $69, after depositing $9 in dues. The bank is still charging a $5 per month dormant account fee. Bruce will get signature cards. The question was raised whether we should change banks. The decision was not to. Bruce will make a $1 deposit or withdrawal each month to keep the account from going dormant.

OLD BUSINESSThe Bishops’ Dinner is coming up. Jim asked when the deadline was. Dave said 10/13. It’s too late to make a reservation.

NEW BUSINESSA question was raised about the status of the roof. Father Nick gave a detailed explanation of the various aspects of the roof, cooling unit and parking lot. Jim said we should replace the stained ceiling tiles in the auditorium when the leak is finally fixed.

SPIRITUALFather Nick spoke again about the virtue of justice since some members were present who were not at the last meeting.

Jim motioned for adjournment and John seconded it. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.


MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 17, 2014

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Jim Lehman, Bruce Skibo and Jerome Collins.

SECRETARY
Bruce moved approval of the minutes of the Jan. 15 meeting as printed; Jim seconded. The minutes were approved.

TREASURER
Bruce reported that the account balance is $75.

CORRESPONDENCE
There was no correspondence.

OLD BUSINESS
There was some discussion about the problems with the lift and light bulbs burnt out in the hall.

NEW BUSINESS
Father Nick asked for members to volunteer to be attendants during the pysanky display from March 9-16.

SPIRITUAL
Father Nick gave a talk about the Cardinal Virtue of Prudence

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JAN. 15, 2014

The meeting opened at 7:03 p.m. with the Holy Name pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, Bruce Skibo, Joe Batcha, John Teleha, Mike Naymik and Steve Dury.

Mike moved approval of the minutes of the Nov. 20, 2013 meeting and John seconded. The minutes were approved as printed.

Treasurer’s report was that the account balance is $45. There are $6 in dues to be deposited. Bruce will take care of that.

The only correspondence was concerning the annual diocesan convention to take place at St. Mary church in Collinwood. The flyer is posted on the parking lot bulletin board and each member was given a copy.

Old business:
Father Nick announced that Bruce had accepted election as treasurer and Jerry Collins had accepted as Marshall.

Dave gave some of the treasurer’s information to Bruce and will get the rest to him this weekend.

New business:
There was a short discussion about fixing the lift so that burnt out light bulbs could be replaced. Father said that Joe is taking care of this.

Mike asked for additional ushers for the ecumenical service Jan. 19. We need at least eight. Father said we are expecting between 150 and 200 people. There will be programs and several mementos for the ushers to distribute as people arrive. Also, there will be a collection and ushers need to do this.

Father Nick gave the spiritual talk about the role of ushers at Liturgy. He said that their apostolate was on of hospitality, not just taking up and counting the collection. They should be on the watch for newcomers and assist them in following the Liturgy or seating them with someone who can. He also said that they need to be knowledgeable about what to do in various types of emergencies, including some first aid knowledge and even how to use an AED. He reminded the ushers to have and read the booklet about the role of ushers.

John moved for adjournment and Mike seconded it. The motion passed and the meeting was adjourned at 7:29 p.m.

 

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF NOV. 20, 2013

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko and Jim Lehman

Dave Stacko moved approval of the minutes of the Oct. 16 meeting and Jim Lehman seconded. The minutes were approved as printed.

There was no correspondence to communicate.

Treasurer’s report was that there is a balance of $45 and $6 dollars of undeposited dues.

Old business:

Father Nick said that we have the display again this year at the Black River Landing Transportation Center International Trees & Model Trains display. Jim said that Madeline Zaworski had called him about using his truck to bring the items down there and Jim agreed. Father said it would be this Friday.

The trailer for the float at the International Parade is available through Mike Naymik. Father will take a look at it to see if it will work. Jim said that the one at Mr. Salkowicz’s is unusable.

The election of officers took place. Results are: Bruce Skibo, treasurer, if he accepts; Dave Stacko, president; Jim Lehman, vice-president; Jerry Collins, marshal, if he accepts.

New business: None

Father Nick gave the spiritual talk about the St. Philip Fast.

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF OCT 16, 2013

The meeting opened at 7 p.m. with the Holy Name pledge. Present were: Father Nick, Dave Stacko, John Teleha and Mike Naymik.

There was no correspondence to communicate.

Treasurer’s report was that $30 had spent for the ad in the dinner program book which leaves a balance of $45. Again it was noted that the dues of $3 for the year is now past due.

Old business:
Father Nick said that we still needed staffing for the Eastern Christian churches display. He also asked about the trailer for the float. Mike Naymik said he would check on a possible source if Jim Lehman couldn’t get anything.

New business:
Election of officers will be at the November meeting.
Mike Naymik reviewed the list of current members. He thought only about 10 of them could be active. He will call everyone on the list before the November meeting. He would like to see all of the young men of the parish join the HNS and asked that a bulletin announcement be done.

Spiritual director:
Father Nick gave the spiritual talk about the capital sin of sloth.

Mike Naymik moved to adjourn; John Teleha seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.

 

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF SEPT. 18

The meeting opened with the Holy Name Pledge. Present were: Dave Stacko, Mike Naymik, Jim Lehman and Father Nick. The minutes of the May 15, 2013 were approved as printed.

Treasurer’s report was that the account balance is $75. Dues are now due – $3 for the year.

Old business:
Jim reported that Bill Sandor was not interested in running a 50/50 club.
Our ad was in the Holy Name appointment book
Jim reported about striping the curbing around the property. The company he was going to approach is going bankrupt. Jim will get with the supplier and try to get a five-gallon can of yellow paint. The striping should be done soon before the weather gets bad.
The Holy Name football frenzy is available again. First game is Oct. 27. The deadline for signing up for the football frenzy is Oct. 11.

New business:
Dave asked if anyone wanted to attend this year’s Bishops Dinner. It is in Eastlake. No one was interested.
Dave asked Father Nick to put a notice in the bulletin about the dues being due.
There was no nomination for a diocesan lay person of the year. Mike suggested sending out postcards as was done last time. Mike moved to put an ad for $30 in the dinner program book. Jim seconded. The motion passed.
The Lorain County Holy Name Society meeting is on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Agnes church, Elyria. Jim and Dave will go to represent our parish.
Father Nick asked for volunteers to staff the Eastern Churches display from Nov. 3-9.
Father Nick asked about the trailer for the International Festival parade. Jim said he would check with Jim Salkiewicz to see if we could purchase it from his father. Mike Naymik also said he would check into the availability of another trailer.

Father Nick gave the spiritual talk about the capital sin of intemperance.

The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
